There are 3 simple ways to tell these pests apart:
Antennae shape
A flying ant has elbowed antennae, as you can see from the image from the right. Termites have straight, bead-like antennae.
Body shape
A termite’s body is streamlined with no waist definition. A winged ant has a pronounced pinched waist that differentiated it from termites.
Wing size
The wings of a flying ant, or winged ant, are usually uneven in length, with the front wings being slightly longer than the back wings. On the other hand, a termite’s wings are usually equal in length.
